About Us
Our History
This tiny historic mining town straddles the South Fork of the Yuba River and has a population of approximately two hundred people. Founded in 1849 by miners from Indiana, it was originally named Indiana Camp.
A Town Called Washington
Washington has been the subject of a documentary, "Refusing to Ghost" Over the years the town's historic and lovely Washington Hotel, one of California's oldest hotels built in 1857, has included some famous overnight guests. Today it caters to summer tourists, although the hotel is open all year long.
Today
The Little Town of Washington is situated deep in the woods, far from civilization. This remote location has an old hotel, with a cafe and bar; a general store, a post office, a schoolhouse, a museum, graveyard and some campgrounds.
The Mighty Yuba River
In the early & mid season the snow melt can make the Yuba River Flow incredibly dangerous. In Summer months enjoy refreshing swimming holes, fishing and panning for gold. Washington also has a wide variety of wildlife, including bear, deer, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, and coyotes.Places to stay:
